good news

So for the past 3 weeks, I've done nothing but wait. Wait for the result of a job interview, that is. And after what seemed like forever, the good news finally arrived last Wednesday. I got the job!!! I officially start on December 13!!! I am so excited!!! Yay!!! I feel like throwing !!! in every sentence!!!

That said, I would like to apologize in advance for the lack of posts. I'll be unofficially coming in to work for some training (started today!) so that when I officially start on the 13th, I'll hit the ground running. I am so happy and ecstatic and excited to get back to the grind. I am looking forward to dive right into a pile of work and knock everyone's socks off.

So that's the good news.

In other news, D and I had an awesome time at the Ploenchit Fair last Saturday. We had lots of fish n chips (we stood in line for 45 mins to get them!), Guiness pints, Pimms, and Prosecco with friends, old and new. So much fun!

Anyway, here's a bunch of unflattering candid pics of me taken by my sneaky hubby-to-be.

Hmmm Carlsberg... I hear it's making a comeback in Thailand.

Hope you guys have an awesome week ahead!

one-man band

D introduced me to the musical wonder that is Andrew Bird. We'd usually play his music on weekend mornings when we slowly ease into the day, nonchalantly browsing the internet while sipping a hot cup of coffee. His music puts us in a good mood. When you listen to him, you'll see why.

Anyhoo, we caught his performance in TED Talks last night. Pretty amazing stuff. Watch!

His performance reminded me of Imogen Heap's live performance of Just For Now at Studio 11 103.1FM which was hosted by Zach Braff. When I first saw this a couple of years back, it blew my mind.

champagne stunner

If I haven't decided on a wedding dress yet, I would definitely consider this stunner.

the answer will always be yes

D has been proposing to me ever since I moved in with him. Usually, I would answer with a coy smile or a "let's play it by ear" type of reply. It was not until we celebrated our first year anniversary that I finally gave a definitive answer.

I didn't think he had anything planned that day. He just told me to meet up with him at Siam Paragon for dinner. But little did I know, this remarkably clever man had something up his sleeve. Once at the meeting point, he gave me his first surprise. A Fuji Instax 200 camera. The one I've been eyeing on for months. I was beaming. Then it was on to the next surprise. Sunset cocktails at Sirocco Sky Bar. We sipped our ice cold mojitos while enjoying a 360-view of Bangkok. Slightly buzzed and on a high over these lovely surprises, we then headed to the third and last surprise of the night. A romantic candlelit dinner for two at Arun Residence.

It was beautiful. We went home that night feeling extremely lucky to have found each other.

Back home, we settled in our bed with laptops in tow. Both of us were glued to our laptop screens. Then moments later, I felt his gaze fixed at me. I looked at him to see what was wrong. As I turned to him, he exclaimed, "Marry me!" It caught me by surprise but it didn't stop me from answering with a resounding "Yes!"

And that was that. D and I got engaged in our bed, without a ring, and with only the words Marry Me and Yes.

Months passed. There was still no ring. I didn't mind. Ring or no ring, I plan to spend the rest of my life with this man. Ring or no ring, the answer will always be YES.

Until a trip to Chinatown. I chanced upon cocktail rings sold in boxes by the side street. I spotted a beautiful turquoise one and I instantly knew I had to get it. D saw how much I wanted the ring and so he offered to buy it for me. For 2 for 100 baht, he got me two. He took the turquoise ring and asked for my hand. He slipped it on my finger and again, asked me to marry him, right in the middle of Samphaeng market. Of course, I said yes.

Since then, I've been proudly wearing this gargantuan turquoise ring on my left ring finger.

Until one day, D suggested we look at wedding rings. Take note: wedding ring not engagement ring. I was perfectly happy with that. We set out that day to look at wedding bands. But somehow we ended up with a beautiful sapphire engagement ring instead.

The ring had to be resized and we wanted one in white gold so we couldn't take it home that day. We had to come back weeks later.

And so last Saturday, after what seemed like a long wait, D and I went back to the jewelry shop, picked up my engagement ring, and once again, he asked me to marry him.

Naturally, I said yes. Again.

new walls

A couple of weeks ago, our apartment finally got repainted. It was in dire need of a paint job and so I couldn't be happier to get rid of the stains on the wall.

Our living room and kitchen got a fresh new coat of Vanilla Ice while our bedroom walls got slathered with a cozy mocha hue called Magnolia.

But with the new paint job, we had to say goodbye to our Fresh Blue colored accent walls. Truth be told, I kinda miss it.

brooch bouquet

Last week, I chanced upon Green Wedding Shoes' round up of vintage brooch bouquets.

Now, I am convinced I have to make one for myself for my wedding day. I like the idea of using the brooches again after the wedding!

to my favorite boy in the world

My favorite boy in the world is celebrating his birthday today. So I'm reposting an entry I wrote for him a couple of years back because it pretty much sums up how I feel for him.

If you're reading this, know that I will always be daddy's little girl. I love you Dad!

***

Last Sunday, my main man celebrated his 60th year. Of course, by main man I mean my dad.

I can't believe he's 60. When my mom told me how old he was, I cried. It just felt like he was so old and I don't want him to be. Because if there's one thing that I wish for my dad, it would be immortality.

My dad and I have always shared an inexplicable bond; the kind that only certified daddy's girls know. It was always easier to relate to him, to be open about what i feel and to talk to him without being conscious of what I am about to say. He is unbelievably kind, thoughtful and sweet in an understated way, understanding and forgiving beyond belief, and his selflessness knows no bounds. Through the years, he has proven just how good of a father he is. A sole provider of a family of six, he has managed to give us the best life has to offer.

I've always been grateful for everything he has given me. But I appreciate him now more than ever. At times wherein I feel tired of dealing with the daily grind of work and the struggles of staying afloat, I think about how my dad has been doing this most of his life and never did I hear him complain about it. He had to take the brunt of providing for five other individuals and here I am whining about fending for myself? The thought in itself leaves me in awe. It amazes me how he has managed to put our needs first before his; how he sacrificed so much just so he can give us a comfortable life.

If there is one thing that I resent about being here in Bangkok, it's being away from him. I miss him so much it breaks my heart. I miss waking up in the morning, going out of my room with my hair all in a mess and then he sees me and gives me this horrified look but gives me a kiss anyway. I miss being stuck in traffic with him and our long talks while in the car. I miss spending happy hour at Richmonde's lounge bar and just talking - catching up like we're just casual friends chugging down loads of beer. I miss meeting up with him in Luk Yuen Megamall for some cheap Chinese food after work. I miss watching funny movies with him and hearing him laugh over the silliest lines. I miss hearing him whistling nonchalantly as he goes about his work. I miss watching him fix the car on weekends, singing along Beatles songs blasting in the background. I miss hearing him use new age words/terms just to sound cool. I miss listening to him as he plays the guitar, playing Beatles songs -- my favorite of which is when he plays And I Love Her because it feels like he's dedicating it to me.

I can go on and on.

To say that I love him is an understatement. Even if I try, I cannot put into words just how much I do. To express just how much he means to me fills me with so much emotion and it makes me cry uncontrollably, it's ridiculous. To me, he is this remarkable man who I have and will always look up to and respect.

I will always feel indebted to him and I've made it a life-long commitment to ensure that I give something back. I only hope that someday I turn out to be half the person that he is and that somehow I make him proud.

Hello. Sorry if I've been MIA these past few days. I've been busy... err... waiting for the phone to ring. Oh I'll explain some other time.

But for now, I leave you to oggle at this impressive shoe collection of Chiara, the fashionable blogger behind The Blonde Salad.

control

D downloaded this film awhile back for us to watch. But somehow, we never got around to watching it until HBO started playing it. We caught it the other night, and I've had this song stuck in my head since then.

fit for a gangster

I was watching Mystery 360: Ghosts Behind Bars on National Geographic yesterday, and it showed Al Capone's lavishly decorated prison cell at the Eastern State Penitentiary.

I guess being a gangster has its perks. Read more about it here.

polaroid display

Just one of the details I love in the home of Jason Roskey and Maggie Goudsmit. Maggie likes to keep photos within reach. I think this is a brilliant way to display your favorite polaroids.

eat the weekend away

This past weekend was all about eating good. It all started on Friday night with D and I's all-time favorite go-to Mexican restaurant: Sunrise Tacos. We both ordered burritos - D opted for a regular burrito while I went all out and got a chimichanga style burrito. So G-double O-D GOOD.

Then there was Saturday. D and I went to a Filipino party where we feasted on good ol' homecooked Filipino dishes. D got to try the Kare-kare (beef with peanut sauce) and Dinuguan (which we fondly call Chocolate Meat) and he liked it! He also loved the Tocino which he nicknamed Candied Pork. In true Filipino fashion, people just surrounded the dinner table, ate, laughed and had tons of fun.

We even went out to local bar after the party to meet up with my family friend Erica who was here in Bangkok with her hubby and their friend for a 4-day holiday. We had so much fun we ended up going home at 3 am.

With not much sleep and a slight hangover, we made our way to JW Marriott's Sunday brunch where my good friend Doug celebrated his birthday. I wasn't feeling all too chipper on the way there. But as soon as I saw the buffet spread, the hangover went away! It was pretty impressive. The buffet that is. And the one too many Bloody Marys didn't hurt either.

We got there at 12pm and left at 4pm. It was an epic brunch!

D and I feeling like tourists aboard the shuttle boat to the hotel.

Spot the birthday boy.
Hint: He likes to hide under table napkins.

Hope you had a great weekend!

color block

It's really hard not to notice that cleverly displaced color block. I personally love the idea. Makes the room all the more interesting, don't you think?

I noticed they did that in Kate Spade's Pop Up shop too.
